The three kids who won the Smokey the Bear Region Poster Contest are; Oliver, Adin, and Peyton. This contest shows their understanding of wildfire prevention and the importance of environment and conservation. Each year this is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Forest Service and The National Federation Garden Clubs of Vermont. Each year Joyce Orgera, a member of the Newfane Garden Club sponsors this program for the Newbrook Elementary School students. Congratulation to all three students.

Dear NewBrook Families,
Baseball and softball are just around the corner! Games will begin sometime after April vacation. You will be hearing from your child’s coach directly as soon as the teams have been decided. If for some reason you forgot to turn in your registration fee, please do so right away (Checks should be made payable to NewBrook Good Sports). We are fortunate to have coaches in place for all of the teams!
In order for baseball and softball season to get under way, we need to clean up the field and concession stand. We are organizing a field clean up day for Saturday, April 26th at 10:00 AM, with a rain date of Sunday, April 27st. PLEASE come and help out! We will need rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows, tools (hammers, nails, saws, etc.), trash bags and cleaning supplies (paper towels, bleach, sponges) to make this happen. Please consider donating a couple of hours of your time to get our field up and running for the first week of games. One of our largest projects will be to build a fence in front of the visitor’s bench in order to protect the players on that side of the field, and if we are ambitious enough, a dugout to go with it. The more people we have, the quicker we will be done.
On this day we will also have an equipment swap, specifically for baseball and softball. If you have used cleats, baseball pants, bats, helmets, or batting gloves that are in good shape, you may bring them to swap. NewBrook Good Sports, however, will not be responsible for cleaning up any leftover items. If your item is not taken from the swap, please bring it home with you when you leave. Since we know how quickly kids grow, sometimes even before they have broken anything in, this is a great opportunity to save some money and get some decent equipment for the season.
Also, NewBrook Good Sports is MISSING a lot of uniforms. We need you to dig through your closets and look for soccer, basketball, baseball, and softball shirts. We are a non-profit organization and we cannot continue to keep buying shirts each year. We need these shirts back by Friday, April 25th at the latest! Please drop them off with Melanie Keiser in the office. Hope to see you on the 26th for field clean up!
The NewBrook PTO is also hosting a clean-up day on the 26th and will be providing lunch for all of the workers. If you would like to donate food for the lunch, please contact Sandy Stark at 365-7057 firstname.lastname@example.org.

The entire NewBook School community would like to congratulate Mrs. Sperling for being awarded the Food Connect Teacher of the year! We are all very proud of her and I personally feel that they could not have picked a better person to give the award to. I would also like to thank the entire Farm to School team for the award and know it was a team effort. Thank you to Mrs. Sperling and the rest of the team for bringing the program to the school.
This filtered water bottle station promotes healthy habits by drinking water throughout the school day. This system offers filtered, refrigerated water and it also keeps track of the plastic bottles that will not be disposed into landfills. Another effort from the students and staff at Newbrook school that shows that we are doing our part to be environmentally cautious. In the near future the Farm to School Committee will be selling water bottles as a fund raiser. Please stay tuned.
