Winter Sports is a time-honored tradition in the West River Valley that gives students in grades K-5 the opportunity to get outside, move their bodies and learn more about all the great active opportunities that make our state such a fun place to live! UPDATE: the WRED board voted (11/15/21) to keep winter sports programming running in the 'traditional sense' as much as possible this coming winter. Given the constraints on transportation and COVID safety protocols, details are still being worked out.
ALL Winter Sports Programming will need as much adult volunteer support as possible. If you are interested in volunteering to help with skating, downhill skiing, or x-c skiing, please let your school's principal know. Additionally- all adult volunteers will need to have fingerprints/background checks completed before participating. Call/email Meg Wright for more information and to make an appointment 802-365-9510.
JISP is the Junior Instructional Snowsports Program, an opportunity for students in grades K-5 to ski and ride on beautiful Stratton Mountain, made possible by the generosity of Stratton Resort and parent volunteers. JISP passes are available for WRED elementary students and families. It is still uncertain whether our students will have access to all the Wednesday JISP days through the school, but all students and chaperones that sign up by NOVEMBER 30th will have access to JISP Sundays (no transportation provided) CLICK HERE to learn more.
More details about how JISP Wednesdays might run will be communicated with participants as soon as they are solidified.
Programs like JISP will depend heavily on parent/community volunteers to transport students, supervise them during transition times (gearing up/down), and teach lessons to small groups. The program will simply not run without this support. Consider getting involved if you can.
